Mariucci Arena Will Have a New Hockey Captain

Taylor MatsonMariucci Arena will have a new hockey captain next season. The new hockey captain that has been annointed is senior winger Taylor Matson. Matson finished with 10 goals and 3 assists in 30 games last season. The Mound, Minnesota native is a 6th round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2007 NHL Draft. In his freshman and sophomore seasons, Matson suffered a season ending injury. He has fought back and battled his way from injury. He replaces Jay Barribal, the captain from last season who was also his teammate at Holy Angels Academy in high school.

Minnesota Gophers Joining Big Ten Conference

Mariucci Arena, get ready. Get ready for the Wisconsin Badgers, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Minnesota Gophers are joining in the brand new Big Ten Hockey Conference in 2013-2014. The Minnesota Gophers have played in the WCHA for a number of years against North Dakota, Duluth, Mankato, St. Cloud, Denver, Colorado College, and so on. It is definitely a change but one that should draw big crowds from these major schools. Look forward to Big Ten hockey at Mariucci Arena!

WCHA First Round at Mariucci Arena, Minnesota Gophers Heating Up

Minnesota GophersThe Minnesota Gophers Hockey Team will be hosting the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves this weekend on Friday, March 11th until possibly Sunday March 13th, depending on the results. It is a best of 3 series, meaning that first team up to 2 victories will move on to the semifinals. The Minnesota Gophers have a 7 game unbeaten streak to finish out the regular season. 2011 Hot Events at Mariucci Arena

Mariucci Arena The Minnesota Gophers are still fighting for an NCAA birth this season and hopefully more. A strong 2nd half will be necessary for gaining an NCAA birth. There will be key series at Mariucci Arena that they will need. On Friday, January 28th and Saturday, January 29th, the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves will visit Mariucci Arena. On Friday, February 11th and Saturday, February 12th, the Denver Pioneers will take their talents to Mariucci Arena. Mariucci Arena Classic, Don't Miss It!

The four teams involved are Minnesota, Union, Ferris State, and Bemidji State. The Minnesota Gophers will play Union on Friday and Ferris State on Saturday. The Mariucci Arena Classic is a great holiday tournament to kick off the New Year! The Minnesota Gophers will be looking to sweep the 2 games and get ready for their showdown against the North Dakota Fighting Sioux on January 14th and 15th!

Hockey Season Started, Have you Been to Mariucci Yet?
